Nile River Cruise Packages

Scene from NileSandy Baker

Nile River cruise packages give you more bang for your bucket if you are looking to sail in Egypt. A Nile cruise allows you to get up close to the pyramids, Pharaohs and the majestic life of this ancient region.

In many situations, a package deal can help lower the cost of a cruise. Most packages cover shore excursion fees, ground transportation to and from the cruise ship, port of call costs and hotel expenses. However, each cruise package for the Nile is different. You can base your selection on your needs and wants.

Nile River cruises allow passengers to travel down the Nile River in Egypt. The cruise often takes place on a large river boat, sometimes with sleeping areas and other times without. From the river, cruisers can see a variety of attractions and scenery. In addition, most voayages include excursions to popular tourist attractions such as :

Sphinx in Giza Djoser's Step Pyramid in Saqqara The Luxor Temple which lies on the site of the Ancient Thebes River Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo The High Dam in Aswan

Many packages will include tour guides who provide background information and guidance for travelers.

Numerous Nile River cruise companies provide package deals. The offers and details below are accurate as of January of 2011. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date offers available through the companies' websites.

Avalon Waterways offers several cruise packages for those traveling down the Nile. The Egyptian Splendor cruise is a nine-day, round-trip cruise from Cairo. The company can book air travel from the United States and include it in your package price. The cruise offers a variety of site seeing opportunities including exploring the Kingdom of Pharaohs.

Another offer by this company is for a 12-day cruise from Cairo that takes travelers farther down the river. This cruise can also include airfare to Cairo from the United States, along with accommodations and admission into the museums and attractions along the route.

For more information on the current cruise offerings or to book a sailing, visit the Avalon Waterways website.

For one of the most complete listings of cruise and tour packages in the region, visit the Safari Egypt website. This company combines Nile River cruises with Egypt tours. The package provides a guide and accommodations for your stay. The company caters to both large groups and individuals who wish to tour the mystical region. The tours may include visiting monuments and wild Sahara safari tours. The company's cruise packages vary from weekend or longer stays.

Another way to book a cruise package down the Nile River is through Discovery Adventures. This company offers a 15-day cruise leaving from Cairo. The company allows you to create your own package. You can choose the dates of your departure, add hotel stays and include transfers. However, you will need to pay your own airfare which is not included in the package price. Highlights of the package include tours of the Holy Mountain, monuments, and sailing on the Red Sea.

To find additional offers for Nile River cruise packages, visit the NileRiverCruise.com website. The site lists a variety of companies offering cruises and cruise packages down the Nile River. Before selecting a cruise, research the tour company and the package prices. Avoid waiting until you get to Cairo to book a Nile River cruise since this is the most expensive route to take. Compare pricing, length of stay and the quality of the cruise online before you book the trip. Also, read through the itinerary of the cruise to find out which tours the company provides as part of the package. These differ widely. Budget, first class, deluxe and luxury cruises on Nile cruises are also available.

Lake Minnetonka Dinner Cruise

A Lake Minnetonka dinner cruise is the prefect venue for romance, sightseeing or just pure fun. The popular sunset sailing allows you to take in stunning views as you nosh on culinary masterpieces while touring the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."

Lake Minnetonka is a popular resort destination near Minneapolis, Minnesota. It draws scores of tourists, as well as locals to its waters each year. While residents, who live along the lake's 125 miles of shoreline, typically cruise the waters in private vessels, visitors get their fill of the pristine waterway courtesy of three cruise companies that offer sightseeing and dinner sailings.

Paradise Charter Cruises offers outstanding sightseeing cruises and private sailings on Lake Minnetonka and the Mississippi River. However, it is the company's nightly dinner cruise that attracts its largest crowds.

Paradise Charter Cruises sail three luxurious yachts that can accommodate groups of 10 to 100 passengers. The sleek vessels are climate controlled and professionally decorated. In addition, they feature spacious sun decks where cruisers can dine under the stars.

The dinner cruises depart from the ports of Excelsior or Wayzata at 6:30 p.m. and sail past historic cottages and million-dollar mansions that dot Lake Minnetonka's shoreline. However, the amazing sights are only part of this spectacular voyage. Paradise Charter Cruises is known for its sumptuous five-star dinner menu, which includes mouthwatering selections such as:

Carved Beef Tenderloin with Portabella Bordelaise Sauce Minnesota Wild Rice Stuffed Chicken Breast Lemon Rosemary Chicken Breast Rubbed Salmon Filet and Yukon Gold Potatoes Seasoned with Garlic and Dill

The dinner entrees also come with salad, homemade corn bread muffins and chocolate dipped strawberries.

If you are sailing with a large group to celebrate birthdays, family reunions, weddings, anniversaries or corporate events, then you might consider booking a private dinner cruise, whereby the company allows you to rent out the entire vessel or reserve a large group of tables on a public cruise to accommodate your party.

Sea Note Cruises claims to sail the most luxurious yachts on Lake Minnetonka. The stunning vessels feature a gigantic main salon and bar surrounded with floor-to-ceiling windows providing a panoramic view of the lake. The private yachts can be chartered for weddings, teambuilding events, or family functions. The charters include dinner packages that feature gourmet menu selections, including:

Whole Cold Salmon or Oven Poached Salmon with Cucumber Dill Sauce Barbeque Baby Back Pork Ribs Mediterranean Chicken Chicken Marsala with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms Champagne Chicken Cabernet Beef Tips with Roasted Red Potatoes Parmesan Encrusted Walleye with Fresh Spinach and Tomato in a White Wine Sauce

All entrees come with salad, roasted vegetables and Key Lime Pie.

Since Sea Note Cruises specialize in private charters, you are allowed the freedom to select departure times and routes, plus you can customize the dinner menu to meet your party's preferences. What's more, the company works with a professional chef employed by a local Hyatt Hotel and can personalize dinner selections to meet special dietary when needed.

BayView Charter Cruises operates a fleet of six cruising yachts with full amenities, including catering and professional staff. In addition, it also offers nightly public cruises that can accommodate up to 500 passengers. The latter is a hit with tourist and locals alike who want to experience a unique Lake Minnetonka dinner cruise.

The company's Queen of Excelsior dinner cruises are fun-filled theme sailings which feature different dinner selections each night of the week. Some of the most popular include:

Wednesday: Pizza Buffet Dinner Cruise Thursday: Hawaiian Luau Dinner Cruise Friday: Taco Bar Dinner Cruise Saturday: Luxury Sunset Dinner Cruise

In addition to the exceptional menu options available on each dinner cruise, passengers are treated to live music, games, and dancing. The company prides itself on its fun and festive dinner cruises and uses Lake Minnetonka's stunning waters as its party headquarters.

All three of the aforementioned companies operate seasonally, from May through October. Advance reservations are required for private dinner charters and highly recommended for the nightly public dinner cruises. June, July and August make up the high season for Lake Minnetonka dinner cruises, so it is a good idea to plan ahead, if you want to dine and sail on a specific night. Spots sell out quickly at the height of the summer season; however, May and October generally allow for more flexibility. Still, it doesn't hurt to reserve in advance, especially if you are traveling with a large group of 10 or more people.

Detroit River Cruises

Detroit River Michele Wanke

Detroit River cruises offer a scenic and entertaining summer adventure to visitors and locals alike. The popular Michigan sailings are filled with food, fun and plenty of fascinating sights. What's more, depending on the type of voyage you select, you could walk away with a fair bit of knowledge about the historic waterway.

From fishing to boat races, to laid-back summer sails to brilliant fireworks shows, the Detroit River serves as the backdrop to a litany of family-friendly activities. The picturesque waterway stretches 32 miles, and provides spectacular views of the Detroit skyline and Canada. In fact, the river serves as the international border between Canada and the United States with water flowing south from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie. The river also divides the booming metropolises of Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, so visitors to the Michigan hot spot can double their fun by simply crossing the Ambassador Bridge.

The Detroit River is also the centerpiece for the city's bustling RiverWalk, which features an eclectic mix of hotels, shops, restaurants and biking trails. Considered the Motor City's newest gem, the RiverWalk is a tourist magnet and is prominently featured on several popular Detroit River cruises.

Due to its northern location, commercial cruises on the Detroit River are limited exclusively to the summer months. Most sightseeing adventures run from June until September and typically fill-up fast. If you are looking for a fun, affordable and educational activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family, then consider setting sail on one of these top-rated Detroit River cruises:

Diamond Jack's River Tours offer the perfect blend of history and frivolity. Guests can choose from three different two-hour narrated scenic sailings which navigate the sparkling waters of the Detroit River:

Detroit Tour: This voyage sails past downtown Detroit's most recognizable landmarks, including the Ambassador Bridge. You will also be treated to spectacular views of Belle Island and other natural gems set along the river. Boblo Island Tour: This sailing cruises around famous Boblo Island. The private island resort is home to a number of scenic wonders, including the legendary Boblo theme park. Wyandotte Tour: This tour provides unprecedented views of the southern portion of the Detroit River, including the spot where the river empties into Lake Erie.

Regardless of which cruise you select, you will have to purchase your tickets in person. Seats are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Diamond Jack's does not take reservations. You can only buy tickets as you board the ferry boat. There is no separate ticket booth on the dock or other location that sells seats. While boarding begins about 15 minutes prior to departure time, if you want a good seat, it's recommended that you arrive 30 to 60 minutes in advance to secure a decent spot in line.

Also, keep in mind that personal snacks and beverages are not allowed on the cruise. However, all the ferries are equipped with snack bars, which sell select drinks, as well as light snacks, such as chips, candy and cookies.

The Detroit Princess The Detroit Princess

The Detroit Princess is relatively new to the river, but the company is already making waves for bringing a historic vessel to the popular waterway. The 200-foot long traditional riverboat towers over the water with four decks that can hold more than 1800 people on a single cruise.

The classic riverboat first set sail on the Detroit River in 2005 after being saved from a Texas scrap pile. It took company owners nearly a year to refurbish the iconic vessel. It now features a full restaurant kitchen with eight convection ovens and two walk-in coolers. The boat also includes several dining rooms, as well as a number of indoor-outdoor bars, and entertainment areas.

Unlike Diamond Jack's tours, the Detroit Princess caters to guests looking to dine and sightsee at the same time. In addition to casual lunch and dinner cruises, the company also offers a wide array of theme sailings, such as Mother's Day brunch voyages and Motown dinner cruises. Since it can accommodate a large number of guests, there is a better chance of securing a spot on the date of your choice. However, tickets for special theme sailings are available on a first come, first serve basis only, which means you must book a date and provide the company with a deposit in order to hold a spot on a particular cruise.

The Detroit Princess is a prime spot to view the Fourth of July fireworks show which explodes in the sky above the river. In addition, the legendary riverboat is known for hosting several dance parties on the water during the summer months. If you are looking for a unique place to relax and enjoy Michigan's temperate conditions while dining and dancing to your heart's content, then you might consider booking a spot on the Detroit Princess. Conversely, this cruise option is not as well suited for those looking to get an in-depth history lesson about the surrounding areas.

Before planning a trip to Detroit, be sure to visit the aforementioned cruise companies' websites to view a complete sailing schedule and to get information about ticket prices and availability. Since the sailings are seasonal, popular dates often sell out quickly.

Also, when prepping for your river cruise, don't forget to bring along proper identification. This is especially important, if you plan to purchase alcoholic beverages on a river sailing. Guests are required to show a valid picture ID prior to being served cocktails.

Brian Powell Michele Wanke

Forget about the overrated pomp and pageantry that's typically associated with new cruise ships. Celebrity Cruises latest addition Celebrity Silhouette provides you with understated sophistication and personalized pampering that you'll remember long after your dream voyage returns to port.

Brian Powell, Associate Vice President of Marketing at Celebrity Cruises is an expert when it comes to luxury sailings. The veteran high seas voyager gives us an insider's look at Celebrity Silhouette and shares advice on how to make the most of your time on a high-class cruise in this exclusive LoveToKnow interview:

LoveToKnow (LTK): The Silhouette is a 122,400-ton floating masterpiece that can accommodate nearly 3,000 passengers. It launched on July 21, 2011, as the fourth ship in Celebrity's Solstice-class. Like its sister ships it has a number of incredible features, could you describe the ones that are most impressive?

Brian Powell (BP): When we introduced Celebrity Solstice in 2008, we wanted to change the way people view cruise vacations, with the hip, cool style of public spaces to the variety and quality of culinary experiences onboard. We continue to raise the bar in our attempts to exceed passengers' expectations with the introduction of our AquaClass staterooms, inspired by the spa enthusiast lifestyle. In addition, the creation of the first Lawn Club - a top-deck lawn of real, growing grass - at sea, is a real crowd pleaser, and one of the hallmarks of our Solstice Class that has truly redefined cruising. The ship also offers another entirely new venue, The Hideaway, an intimate, quiet space reminiscent of a childhood tree house.

The Alcoves onboard Celebrity Silhouette The Alcoves onboard the Silhouette

LTK: What new dining options are available?

BP: Celebrity Silhouette has introduced a whole new set of spaces on and around our Lawn Club. These include:

In addition, we've added a new twist on Celebrity's Michael's Club, with a selection of more than 50 beers from around the world, including craft beers. In total, there are seven specialty restaurants on Celebrity Silhouette, as well as a main dining room and multiple casual dining venues.

LTK: The luxury vessel boasts phenomenal staterooms and suites. What advice can you give those trying to decide which type of cabin to book?

BP: All of our staterooms and suites feature exceptional service, luxurious bedding, flat-screen TVs and comfortable showers. Someone seeking the most sumptuous experience should consider booking a Sky Suite or Royal Suite, which brings butler service, more seating areas and space, and the opportunity to enjoy special perks such as assistance unpacking and complimentary espresso and cappuccino into the mix. If a truly relaxing experience is the goal, I recommend our AquaClass staterooms, which are located near the AquaSpa and feature unlimited access to the Persian Garden aromatherapy room and Relaxation Room, exclusive dining in the specialty restaurant Blu, flavored teas, pampering in-stateroom lotions and other amenities.

Transportation to Disney Cruise Lines

Cruise TicketsSandy Baker

Getting transportation to Disney Cruise Lines is not hard. The company helps passengers with transportation issues during the reservation process, but some flexibility is required.

For those taking the Disney Magic or Disney Dream from Port Canaveral to the Caribbean or Bahamas, Disney Cruise Lines help arrange your transportation. Guests fly into the Orlando International Airport, and then take a Disney motor coach from the airport terminal to Port Canaveral. In many cases, Disney travel guides will help you book your flight when you reserve your cruise.

It is important to plan for air transportation as early as possible. Many people will benefit from booking directly with Disney Cruise Lines for this. If you do, the company provides you with ground transportation from the airport to the cruise terminal, without any additional cost.

Once you book your flights you can view the details of your trip as early as 45 days prior to the date of your embarkation. To do this, simply log into the My Online Check-In, an online portal for cruise goers. You can also call Disney Cruise Lines directly at (877) 566-0967 to confirm information about your trip.

Once you gather your flight information from the Disney representatives, the next step is to contact the airline directly. Doing this will allow you to arrange your seat assignments on board the plane. If you need special arrangements, such as special seating or special meals, you can make arrangements through your airline to meet your needs. Also, if you are using a frequent flyer account, be sure to provide this to your airline at this time. There are a few things to note about booking your airline tickets through Disney:

Disney Cruise Line selects the airline; you do not. The company also has the right to designate any schedule from the available options from your city. You can make requests for specific airlines, flights or times. To do this, you must request the Special Air Request Department at the time of booking. Also, there is an extra fee for this service. You can modify your airline tickets by contacting the company for a Flight Modification Form. A Disney representative will contact you to help you make changes.

There is also a fee for canceling a flight. This fee may be as much as 100 percent of the add-on costs for some flights. You should request information about cancelation in advance if you are concerned about the fee.

Once you arrive in Orlando, you need to get to the port terminal. To do this, make arrangements early on in the planning process. When you book your cruise and transportation through Disney Cruise Lines, the company will send a Documentation Packet that contains all the information you need to get to the cruise port. This includes specific luggage tags. Prior to checking in at the airport, place these tags on your luggage and your bags will be automatically transport to the cruise ship.

You will receive vouchers for your ground transportation on Disney's Magical Express, the motor coach bus offered by Disney. After you land in Orlando, follow the signs that take you to the ground transportation level. From there, you will get on the appropriate Disney motor coach and will be on your way to your cruise terminal.

Transportation to Disney Cruise Lines is straightforward and easy to manage when you use the company's services. If you don't you will need to book your own transportation through a travel agent or other means.

If you wish to book transportation to Disney Cruise Lines on your own that option is available. You can purchase airline tickets for a time convenient for you. In addition, you can travel by taxi to the port. If you decide to book flights outside the Disney transportation options, it is a good idea to contact Disney Cruise Lines to make ground transfer arrangements to get you from the airport to the terminal. It is recommended you do this at least 75 days in advance to secure a spot.

Galapagos Island Cruises

Pinnacle Rock at Sunset

Galapagos Island cruises acquaint travelers with the uninhabited environment of the Galapagos archipelago. Cruises are small and intimate, offering luxury accommodations with exceptional services. The mood is casual and friendly, with a wide array of exciting and educational activities. No matter what cruise you choose, you will experience an unforgettable journey through the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos archipelago is located on the equator west of Ecuador's mainland. Cruises sail the Galapagos Islands year-round as the climate is quite pleasant in every season. Many travelers explore the islands after visiting the mainland of Ecuador, and most cruise companies offer extended packages, including adventure sailings, plus hotel packages on the mainland.

Environmental standards are closely regulated to ensure preservation of one of the most isolated archipelagos left on earth, thus travel by water is restricted to small, environmentally regulated modes of transportation. You can choose to tour the islands on a sailboat, mid-sized yacht or luxury cruise vessel designed to accommodate up to 100 guests.

Smaller-sized ships not only help preserve the natural ecological environment, but afford adventurous cruisers the opportunity to explore some of the archipelagos' most remote locations. Another advantage of smaller-sized ships is the cozy social atmosphere they offer. The larger expedition cruises are not nearly as intimate as smaller sailboats, but offer additional perks, such as roomier cabins and a larger range of onboard services and activities.

Most cruise ships navigating through the Galapagos Islands offer some type of all-inclusive package tailored to the ship's style and expedition experience. Some companies offer packages that include full itineraries and meals, but do not include airfare or other courtesies, such as transfers or gratuities, within the total package price. The all-inclusive package offered on Celebrity Cruises for the 2011 season includes the following:

Gratuities Airfare Transfers Meals and beverages Expert onboard naturalist guides Daily itinerary and excursions

Before booking an expedition, read the fine print for a full description of what is included in the ship's all-inclusive package. This ensures a more pleasurable voyage and minimizes unexpected last minute expenditures that can so often break the bank.

Virtually every cruise in the Galapagos Islands offers a full itinerary of daily excursions and activities included in the package price. Cruisers can expect to experience at least one guided port of call each day led by a qualified naturalist fluent in English. Some naturalists are also fluent in multiple languages. The opportunity to select an activity level preference, from active, moderate or minimal exertion is provided for each daily excursion. Each activity level is formed into a small group. Different activities featured on Galapagos cruise itineraries include:

Snorkeling Whale watching Bird watching Guided hikes Zodiac cruises Scuba diving Kayaking Cave explorations Photography excursions

A Galapagos expedition cruise is a luxury cruise coupled with adventurous and educational activities designed to inspire both your mind and body. Although luxury class expedition cruises are smaller in size, everything a world cruiser would want and need is packed into these cozy luxury liners. You will find world class service, an intimate and relaxed environment and luxurious accommodations, including:

Complimentary sparkling wine Fruit baskets Binoculars Snorkeling equipment Daily hors d'oeuvers Stocked minibars

Galapagos Island cruises are managed exclusively for exploring one of the most uninhabited regions of the world. Moreover, Galapagos cruises are sustainable and are either locally or privately managed. The one exception is Celebrity Cruises' sailings, which is one of the large cruise ship companies operating within the archipelago. All cruise lines hire onboard staff fluent in English, and sometimes skilled in multiple languages. Below are a number of luxury class cruises that sail within the isolated boundaries of the Galapagos Islands:

While planning a vacation to the Galapagos Islands keep in mind most cruise ships sailing through this destination book one year in advance. However, it is also advantageous to explore last-minute cruise deals, as they often include incentives, such as free airfare to the region.

Anniversary Cruises on Royal Caribbean

Michele Wanke

Nothing puts the sizzle back into a sedentary union more than setting sail on a romantic anniversary cruise on Royal Caribbean. The upscale cruise company offers passion-filled packages for couples looking to reignite the flames of love on the high seas.

Royal Caribbean anniversary cruises ooze romance and intimacy. From quiet sunsets and sweet musical tributes to sentimental ceremonies and elegant embellishments, rededicating yourself to your beloved onboard a luxury ocean liner has never been so memorable.

Fortunately, you don't have to go overboard planning a vow renewal service all by yourself. Royal Caribbean offers "Royal Romance Wedding Consultants," who create magical memories for couples looking to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a romantic vow renewal ceremony. A standard "Royal Encore" package includes:

Picturesque locale onboard a Royal Caribbean ship Vow renewal ceremony performed by the ship's social host Romantic music Elegant bridal bouquet Simple groom's boutonniere Keepsake vow renewal certificate. Four chocolate-covered strawberries and sparkling wine for married couple One-hour of professional shipboard photography service for the ceremony and post-vow exchange poses

If you decide to renew your wedding vows during an anniversary cruise onboard Royal Caribbean, keep in mind that the ceremony is not legal and couples with different last names will be required to show proof of marriage. In addition, couples interested in the vow renewal package must notify the cruise line 14 days in advance of sailing. An exact time and location of the ceremony will be coordinated once you are onboard the ship.

If you prefer a more low-key anniversary celebration onboard Royal Caribbean, then consider requesting a Royal Romance package which includes anniversary-related stateroom decorations and a "Congratulations" cake. The celebratory package deals range in price and can be as simple or elaborate as you choose. Packages vary depending on your destination and itinerary. The standard package comes with balloons, streamers, a banner and flower cake. However, if you don't mind spending a bit more, special gifts can also be included direct from the ship's boutiques and other retailers.

Some couples prefer to commemorate their anniversary with private celebrations. In these cases, Royal Caribbean offers a selection of special touches to add to your stateroom, from fresh flower bouquets to buckets of champagne and strawberries. You may request the enhancements upon boarding or order them prior to sailing, so that they are in place when you arrive in your stateroom.

Royal Caribbean loves to celebrate special occasions, but realizes that some guests prefer to observe their anniversaries without a lot of pomp and circumstance. If you are taking a cruise to commemorate five, 10 or 25 years of wedded bliss, and don't want the fanfare of balloons, streamers and banners, then opt to recognize the milestone by taking part in some couples-only activities. Onboard options include

Couples rock climbing Flowrider surf simulator lessons Pairs ice-skating lessons Couples spa treatments Golf lessons

Another way to reconnect with your beloved is to sign-up for adventurous or romantic shore excursions. Tour a European castle, stroll along a Caribbean beach or spend your anniversary hiking hand-in-hand through a tropical rain forest. Experiencing a dream date is made easy by contacting your ship's social activities coordinator.

Whether you go all out with an elaborate onboard vow renewal ceremony or you simply want to sneak off to a secluded section of the ship to enjoy a sunset cocktail with your spouse, Royal Caribbean has a litany of fun options for couples celebrating their anniversaries. You can also help pump up the passion by selecting a romantic cruise destination, such as Hawaii, Mexico or Puerto Rico. Finally, timing is everything. If you don't want to spend your anniversary rubbing elbows with large crowds, don't sail during the peak holiday season or when kids are out on summer break.
